The Pasha Bulker - 8th June 2007
Newcastle

In June 2007 the coastline of Newcastle to Sydney was hit by storms that some said where the worst seen in 100 years. Roads fell away, trees up rooted, flooding, mass power outages and even sadly the loss of life.
On the 8th of June the ship called the Pasha Bulker got into trouble and was to close to the coastline and after a frightening trip along the shore it eventually came stranded at Nobbys Beach. This unbelievable sight became world wide news. Traffic to my website increased by a 1000 hits a day when I added photo's of the Pasha Bulker from people all over the world hungry for more information and pictures of this site.
My best mate Shane lives in Newcastle and said the camera shops were packed from people pulling out their old cameras and buying film and accessories in order to capture the moment.
When taking this photo on sunrise I got there early and I stood in the dark and you could see this huge tanker with it's light on towering over you. The waves crashing into it's hull sounded like someone banging a base drum in the distance. As the sunrise drew closer the area became packed with people and their camera gear, a guy next to me with a small point and shoot digital said, "I should have been at work half an hour ago". A truly amazing site.
Happy Shooting
Port Stephens
45 minutes north of Newcastle
Another lovely part of the Newcatle area is that of Port Stephens. The above image is taken at Zennith Beach in Nelson Bay. This small township with a harbour full of fishing boats and yachts is a great afternoon trip to get out and grab some fish and chips for lunch.
Over the coming year I plan to shoot this area some more and explore the many small bays and high points of the area.
